What is MXD?

Muscat X Dubai, which is read 'Muscat meets Dubai', (MXD) is a personal Blog or Web log of an Omani who comes to live in Dubai for Study purposes. And that Omani happens to be me.

Before I begin, you should know (if you don't already) that Muscat is the capital of Oman and Dubai is a city in the UAE.
In this Blog, I will be sharing my transition from my home town, Muscat, to the big city. What makes it interesting is that Oman and the UAE are neighboring countries and they share a lot in common and yet, the cities in Oman, or rather, the city (singular) in Oman is a fraction of the size of the cities in the UAE and are also very different in many aspects.

I am going there on my first year of college, this transition will include everything from finding accommodation to the ability to live there to the whole college experience in Dubai.
And with this, you can learn more about how life in Dubai really is like, what things you will need to consider if you ever decide to come live here and much of the facts that you will need to know when you decide to come live here. I am sure a lot could be learnt from all the mistakes that I will be making.

As I start to settle down and this Blog progresses more, I will maybe start to include news related to Dubai in addition to my experiences. Remember, just because this Blog is about my experiences, it doesn't mean that it is not beneficial. The whole point of making this Blog is so that who ever decides to come to Dubai can learn more about it through the experience of a young man that came here starting from zero. And part of the whole "people benefiting from this Blog" thing, is news related to Dubai that I will hopefully include in the near future

This should be different, interesting and fun because Muscat X Dubai.

I think you will be in for lots of excitement and also some shocks (and not all good ones).

You'll also understand why longer-time Dubai expats talk so well of Oman and Muscat as a more peaceful, "real" place. Omani people also have a wonderful reputation among most expats, you guys are seen as very peaceful and hospitable.

I worry though that you will be disappointed at the erosion of much of the Gulf culture - given how much history and heritage your own country has, it may upset you all the more how Disnified much of the UAE has become. However if you do get sick of the city and don't have time to get back home for the weekend, I recommend a trip to Al Ain. It always refreshes.

Hey Secret Dubai,

Congratulations for being the first to comment on this Blog! :p

Thanks for the warning. I see what you are saying because I've been in Dubai many times but never lived there though.
In a way, that's a little of what I want. I want to be in a place that is mostly consumed by development for a reason. I want to take as much new ideas and concepts as I can for one day when I go back to Muscat, I can use them there.

I know that the whole city glamor is going to fade out after a while but till then, I plan to have lots of fun and take as much in as possible in every aspect from joy to knowledge to experience. After all, I am young (how many people get to say that?):D

I looove my country but I can't wait to come there and experience.

BTW, I've been in Al Ain when I was much younger and I still remember the zoo. It was such an amazing time and I plan to go there again one day.

Alright, I'm so gonna read this blog. I hope you keep it updated though, as blogging can be tedious. :)

@ secretdubai

How do you find new blogs so quickly?! Mind sharing some tips or something? ;)

Hey Danny,
I know what you mean. Keep a Blog updated is no easy task and especially in a country as fast as Dubai. But I will do my best. :)

I think SecretDubai found this Blog because I commented in one of his/her posts.

I visited Oman and Dubai a couple of years ago. Preferred Oman because it was less densely populated with cars and I enjoy nature. Dubai was interesting but Oman is where my heart was. :^)
